BRANSON MO NEWS: More News The history of a Southwest Missouri community is being used to inspire the future. Raine Clotfelter is far from new at this. “We’re up to about 177 pieces of art, about 60 percent of those have been these giant mural walls,” says Raine Clotfelter. Along the way, he’s become known as “America’s Muralist.” His work has taken across the nation, helping towns along the way preserve their heritage. “When we finish up with this one we’re on our way to Marmonth, North Dakota; Baker, Montana; St. Charles, Missouri; Tulsa, Oklahoma and one here in Branson,” says Raine Clotfelter. Most recently, he’s been working in Monett, where he’s been painting a 20 foot tall by 70 foot wide mural at the corner of Fifth and Broadway. “It’s showing a variety of things that picture moments from Monett’s past,” says Jeff Meredith. Monett Main Street president Jeff Meredith says the mural is part of a much larger effort to bring you to downtown. “Every little thing we can do to make Monett a better place to come, especially the downtown corridor,” says Jeff Meredith. And it helps preserve a part of the town’s story. “You have the old Gillioz Theater, you have planes that are reminiscent of some of the old guard who used to fly their planes around and do loop de loops and things,” says Meredith. But Clotfelter says this isn’t just about preserving the history of Monett. It’s also about passing on his passion to the next generation. “We have had the art teacher here this past week, and I’ve had some art students stop by as well, and it’s great to be able to pass this on,” says Raine Clotfelter. Clotfelter wrapped up his work on the Monett mural today.
