Author, Columbus High School alum closes the book on latest mystery

BRANSON MO NEWS: Author Susan Pare, a 1957 graduate of Columbus High School who started writing novels after she retired, has recently completed her sixth mystery.“Cowtown” tells the story of hot-tempered Freddie Demonti and the Campanale family, who mistakenly believe they are more qualified than the cops are to take care of the town bully. The story is set in Cowtown, a fictional Chicago neighborhood.Freddie — who earned the nickname “Firecracker” when he was just a kid because the slightest thing could set him off — lives up to his moniker as an adult when he beats up Mike Campanale for spilling a drink on him. Three young women decide to get even with Freddie by embarrassing him in front of the town, hitting him where they know it will hurt him the most: messing with his Conquest Knight XV. Unfortunately, what starts out as a prank quickly turns into a war between the two families.
After one of Mike’s sisters goes missing, Detective Peppers of the Chicago Police Department is brought in to investigate. As he runs into one stumbling block after another, he realizes that dealing with the Demonti and Campanale families is way beyond the norm.Pare is already …
