BRANSON MO NEWS: BRANSON, Mo. — This Memorial Day weekend is also the official kick off of boating season.But before heading out to the water, you should understand important safety tips and laws about boating.The Missouri State Highway Patrol says it will be out in full force this weekend on land and water.MHSP says it’s important to understand that the person operating a boat is the commander — and they must make sure equipment is good and usable. “That includes lifejackets, a throwable device like the seat cushion I’ve got sitting right over here…-fire extinguisher and sounding device of some kind, said Trooper Andrew Rickman, “Either the horn that comes with the boat, a whistle or an air horn that you can buy at any store that you go to.”As a reminder, if you plan on celebrating with alcohol this weekend, remember the legal limit for boat operation is the same as for operating a vehicle on land — point 08.Trooper Rickman says heat can also play a role when drinking. “Being out in the elements, the heat – you can get dehydrated pretty quickly if you’re not drinking water and eating regularly,” Rickman said, “With the alcohol your levels can spike. So a lot of times, you have a higher level than what you actually feel.”Heather Stuart has been boating since she was a kid. She says she knows and follows the rules. “It’s just like defensive driving, Stuart said, “You gotta make sure you watch for the other guy.
