BRANSON MO NEWS: A pedestrian hit and killed along Highway 65 in Branson has been identified as Amber Lawson, 33, of Branson.

The crash happened at about 8:30 p.m. Friday in the northbound lanes of Highway 65, near 248. Police say Lawson was struck while crossing the highway on foot.
A 2004 Chevy 3500 truck operated by Thomas Cooper of Mountain Grove was traveling in the passing lane of northbound U.S. Highway 65. Due to an unknown reason, the woman walked into the path of the truck. Cooper called 911 and stated that he had accidentally hit a pedestrian.
“[After] talking with family a little bit, we know she was walking on 65, but we don’t know why she crossed and where she crossed at is not a common place to cross 65. Right there is a divided highway, it’s four-lanes, and there’s no access for pedestrians besides walking from the roadway either from 76 or 248, so we don’t really know why she was on the roadway at the time,” Sgt. Stanley Kauffman said.
Sgt. Kauffman says Lawson died upon impact.
“If the driver is traveling 60 miles an hour, he’s going to be traveling 88 feet per second. His headlights are only going to illuminate 160 feet in front of his vehicle, so the driver is only going to have about a second and a half once the object comes into his view to respond and react. So, it was an instant fatality,” Sgt. Kauffman said.

Preliminary information shows no impairment of Mr. Cooper. Police are awaiting results of lab testing on both Cooper and Lawson.
“In all fatal accidents, we pull blood from drivers that are involved and pedestrians. Then, whoever is deceased, we will pull that blood. We will send that blood off to the state crime lab. We will ask them to analyze that blood for alcohol, any type of commonly abused …
