Bridges takes reins for Branson volleyball
BRANSON MO NEWS: Branson High School’s volleyball team enjoyed a resurgence in the 2017 season, going from an 18-14-3 finish to a 20-11 season and trip to the Class 4 District 11 semifinals.Coach Lauren Dorris and outside hitter Caroline Wescott swept Tri-Lakes honors, winning Coach of the Year and Player of the Year awards, respectively.Wescott graduated and Dorris left after her one season with the Pirates, resigning to pursue professional opportunities out of state.
Enter coach Kailey Bridges, who has a history with the district and a hunger to help the program take another step in the process.“The foundation has been laid,” Bridges said. “They have a lot of very athletic kids who are motivated to get better. They were a little maybe reserved, so this summer a big emphasis has been to have a love for the game and let that ooze a little bit.”Bridges is a product of the successful program at Logan-Rogersville High School, where she played for coach Tammy Miller. While at Missouri State, Bridges did her student teaching at Branson. After graduating, she went to Marshfield, where she was on the coaching staff for seven years – the last four as head coach.When the Branson job opened last spring, Bridges jumped at the chance.“I felt like it was an opportunity that I just couldn’t pass up,” Bridges said.There has been much turnover in the coaching ranks with the Branson volleyball program in recent years. Much of the work over the summer and in the preseason has been on finding a comfort level between Bridges and her staff, and the players on the roster.“I feel like this summer we spent a lot of time building relationships,” Bridges said. “I’m letting them know that I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.
