Southwest Missouri’s MOCERT1 regional team was honored recently as the second-place State Cert Team of the Year at the FEMA Region 7 meeting in Missouri. MOCERT1 is made up of county CERT teams from Polk, Greene, Christian, Taney and McDonald counties.Polk County’s CERT coordinator Kermit Hargis said the regional team was recognized for assisting with multiple natural disasters in 2017, including floods in southern Missouri, a tornado in Goodman and evacuations in Branson caused by flooding on Lake Taneycomo.CERT training coming to health center in March

Polk County Health Center is seeking individuals, groups and organizations to be part of the county’s CERT with training sessions set for three Saturdays in March.During and after a disaster, CERT members help clean up debris, provide medical assessments or distribute emergency information.Polk County CERT volunteers are trained in courses including disaster preparedness, fire suppression, medical operation, team organization and light search and rescue.

CERT members also volunteer in non-emergency capacities throughout Polk County.Classes are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 14 and 24, at the Polk County Health Center. There is no cost to take the classes.
