BRANSON MO NEWS: Charges of forgery and receiving stolen property have been dropped against a Branson businessman.

David Vernon Lott, 60, was accused in December 2016 of stealing $100,000 from Conklin Marketing, and of forging documents for the purpose of defrauding Conklin Marketing investors.

Lott presented the Branson Tri-Lakes News, which published a story about the charges in December, with a document from the Taney County Prosecutor’s Office stating the case had been dismissed.

Lott also presented an affidavit from Conklin Marketing in which directors of the company state they are not an injured party, and that they are clients of Lott’s company, Missouri Holdings.

Lott said the confusion came over a Standby Letter of Credit of $231 million for his company. He said the letter triggered money-laundering suspicion from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and Lott, who had been given a suspended imposition of sentence after making an Alfred Plea on a previous charge of stealing, ended up facing charges.

Lott said if the letter was a fraud, then he was one of the victims.

Lott said the incident, and its subsequent publicity, has cost his company several potentially large business deals in the area.
