City to suspend liquor license of local grocery store

BRANSON MO NEWS: A grocery store’s liquor license will be suspended later this year, as it was approved by the Branson Board of Aldermen Tuesday evening.

Carl Garrett, the city’s supervisor of licensing and tax compliance, recommended a three-day suspension of a Country Mart’s liquor license, located off Missouri 248, after failing a third compliance check within a three-year time frame.

“The recommended suspension is due to that an employee of the business has sold intoxicating liquor to a minor, a violation of section 6-166 paragraph A of city code,” Garrett said.

“Country Mart employees have received a total of three citations from the Branson Police Department since November 2013,” Garrett said.

The other citations issued by police to employees occurred in November 2013, June 2014, and July 2016, according to Garrett.

A meeting was held in June of 2014 with Garrett, the store’s then managing officer, Brad Beattie and the other store manager Chad Smith, as well as Sgt. Sean Barnwell of the police to department, to discuss a corrective plan of action for selling to minors.
