College of Idaho hoops team qualifies for NAIA Tournament

BRANSON MO NEWS: The College of Idaho men’s basketball team is heading back to Nationals.The Yotes (23-9) earned an at-large bid to the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday and will travel to Point Lookout, Missouri next week as the No. 5 seed in the Naismith Bracket.“It’s a sense of excitement, it’s a little bit of a relief,” College of Idaho coach Scott Garson said. “Even though we knew our resume was good enough, we didn’t know we were in until it was announced.”

The College of Idaho will face Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) (23-9) at 8:45 p.m. (MT) next Wednesday in the first round of the tournament. The Tigers beat the Yotes 88-80 in the national quarterfinals in 2015, the College of Idaho’s last trip to the national tournament. It’s the third trip to nationals in four years for the Yotes under Garson.The Yotes got into the tournament via an at-large bid, which was determined by national rankings. The Yotes were ranked No. 19 in the Coaches’ Top 25 poll released on Wednesday, and received the sixth of nine at-large bids.Three of those bids went to Cascade Conference teams. Eastern Oregon …
