BRANSON MO NEWS: Former Missouri distance runner Karissa Schweizer signed with Kimbia Athletics as she begins her professional career, the organization announced Saturday.Schweizer recently earned her sixth national title, winning the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 9. The victory also made her the sixth woman in NCAA history to win back-to-back outdoor titles in the event.Along with her six national titles, Schweizer was a 10-time All-American and won eight conference titles.

Pair of MU softball players to transferAfter Missouri softball made a head coaching change, two veteran Missouri softball players have announced their plans to transfer from the university.On Friday, shortstop Braxton Burnside announced on Twitter her decision to transfer to Arkansas.“To all the coaches, staff, and fans I want to say thank you for allowing me to be a part of the Missouri Tiger family,” Burnside wrote in her tweet. “Unfortunately, it’s time for me to move on. This was a personal decision that I have thought through with my family and feel is best for me.”Burnside batted .275 with three home runs and 28 runs batted in this past season as a sophomore.

On Saturday, first baseman Rylee Pierce made a similar move, announcing on Twitter her plans to transfer to Arizona.“I am so grateful and honored to have been one of the many to wear ‘Missouri’ across my chest,” Pierce wrote. “After prayerful consideration and reflection, at this point in my life it is best for me to move forward in a different direction.”Pierce hit .318 with eight home runs and 23 RBI as a junior.
