BRANSON MO NEWS: Quincy had to play with just two outfielders the remainder of the game and held on to a 10-5 victory over Monmouth.
MONMOUTH – The Quincy Legion baseball team brought only nine players to Sunny Lane on Wednesday night.And by the fifth inning, Quincy was down to just eight players after Jaden Bryant was hit by a pitch in the elbow and had to leave the game. Quincy had to play with just two outfielders theremainder of the game and held on to a 10-5 victory over Monmouth.“That was really tough,” said Quincy coach Scott Nierman.“That was really tough on our pitching. There were balls hit to our outfield that I would say outs – not necessarily routine, but a couple that would have been right at a routine position. That was the first time we have had to do that.”Nierman said Quincy has 13 total players and they usually bring 11 players to the game. It marked the second-straight win for Quincy as they improved to an 8-4 record on the season.He said their biggest win of the season was a 10-2 victory over Branson, Missouri.Added Nierman, “With their pitching (Monmouth’s), I’ll give some of them credit for keeping our bats in check. A couple of their guys were hitting their spots.”Nierman was primarily talking about Monmouth pitcher Addison Fletcher who tossed the first 3 2/3 innings of the game.Fletcher left the game with a 4-2 deficit after scattering five hits, walking five batters and striking out twobatters.“We found ways to get out of jams early,” said Monmouth coach Ross Parcel. “Addison did not have his best stuff tonight, but he battled and kept us in the ballgame.
