BRANSON MO NEWS: Fred Kirschman was a devoted husband and a loving father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was our protector, confidante and hero. He was a friend to countless and an enemy of none. But in the blink of an eye, on the morning of Dec. 28, 2016, he left us and joined his wife, Doris, in their forever home.Fred C. Kirschman was born on April 11, 1920, on the family farm in Hettinger County, to Jacob Jr. and Margaretha (Kaseman) Kirschenmann. He spent his formative years farming with his father and brothers. His mother died at an early age and he had fond memories of being cared for by his aunt, Pauline and his grandparents, Jacob Sr. and Katherina. On Feb. 20, 1942, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. After basic training he traveled to the West Coast for deployment. He went to sleep on a train thinking he would awake in San Francisco and ended up in Alaska. On a furlough to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, he met Doris Benkie at the Central Baptist Church. After his discharge, they were married there on Jan. 11, 1946.
