MUSCATINE, Iowa (KWQC) – Mike Phillips believes a little bit of country gospel is good for the soul. The sixty four year old singer from Muscatine makes a joyful noise unto the Lord.
Phillips recently received the prestigious Golden Heart Award from the Country Gospel Music Association in Branson, Missouri. Phillips sang “He Did Not Throw The Clay Away”.
His story is inspirational. A year ago, Phillips was diagnosed with leukemia. He says there were days he didn’t think he could keep going. However, music is his medicine. It’s a pick me up for Phillips.
Recently, during a session at the Mischief Recording Studio in Muscatine, the award winner performed. Mike’s longtime friend, and studio engineer, Parke Mc Connaha says Phillips’ voice is special. His pitch is very good. He sings with a passion.
The past year has been a journey for Phillips. Through the ups and downs of battling leukemia, he continues to praise God with his voice.
Phillips reminds people that no matter what you  are going through, God can take you to places you could never get without him!
