BRANSON MO NEWS: It was all the way back in September when Ben Harvey received an offer from Eastern Illinois men’s basketball coach Jay Spoonhour. It was Harvey’s first NCAA Division I offer and he hoped more were on their way. They were.The offer from EIU opened the floodgates and quite a few D-I reached out to Harvey – North Texas, UT Arlington, Stephen F. Austin and Wisconsin-Milwaukee, to name a few. As the offers continued to pile up, EIU’s coaching staff continued to contact Harvey to let him know how interested they were in having him join their program.EIU stuck with Harvey as he waited to make his decision. Harvey wanted to wait until his senior season with Link Year Prep Academy, in Branson, Missouri, was finished. Then he would go over all of his offers. Even though it was about nine months since EIU’s offer, that was the one that still stuck out to Harvey, and EIU was still at the top of his list.
In May, Harvey made his decision. He stuck with the first D-I to offer him and committed to play for EIU and Spoonhour this fall.”I was so excited to sign with EIU. Throughout the recruiting process, they were the first to offer me and it felt like they really wanted me. They stayed on me. I went to visit and I loved the coaches and players,” Harvey said. “Just that comfort level with Spoonhour and I can relate to him. We went through the same deal, we played the same and had the same style.
