Immaculata Catholic School students and families remain in the process of locating a new school for the 2017-18 school year, school officials said.
The Leavenworth Regional Catholic School System announced Jan. 4 that declining enrollment led to the decision to close the high school at the end of the spring semester. Immaculata has just 64 students this semester.
The high school held an event last week at which representatives of 10 private, public and Christian schools in the area talked about their schools. Information about the schools was available at tables set up in the IMAC gymnasium. Administrators, teachers and students from each of the schools were there to talk to IMAC students and parents.
“People are looking everywhere,” said Nichole Ackles, spokeswoman for the LRCSS.
Although Immaculata Catholic School will close, Xavier Catholic School will remain open. Xavier has students in preschool through sixth grade.
Seventh- and eighth-grade classes that are at the high school this year will move to Xavier next school year.
A meeting with be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculata Catholic School for parents of students at Xavier Catholic School. LRCSS representatives will visit with parents about Xavier.
