Indians power to 4-1 mark in Branson play
BRANSON MO NEWS: By Mike Tupamtupa@examiner-enterprise.comGrrrrr!The Bartlesville Doenges Ford Indians’ snarl was greater than the bite of Carl — Carl Junction18-and-under, that is, in baseball tournament play Friday in Branson, Mo.Bolstered by the complete-game gem of left-handed hurler Zach Snow, the Indians pounded Carl Junction (Mo.), 11-1, in the College of the Ozarks Showcase.The Indians — an American Legion Majors (19-U) team — improved to 3-0 in the tourney with the win.But, a couple of hours later, they suffered their first loss in Missouri, falling to Play It Again Sports, 10-4.The Indians (7-2) were slated Saturday to finish up play in Branson.In the victory against Carl Junction, the Indians hopped aboard the Isaiah Express bound for Power Poke Gulch.Isaiah — last name Meissner — slammed a double and a single and drove in three runs.John Cone added two singles and a RBI, while Randsom Jones, Grant Yardley and Cole Ellis each ripped a base hit.And let’s not forget Andrew Harden. The Bruin Blaster scored two runs on a sacrifice fly to round out the Indians’ primary plate forces.Snow needed just 59 pitches — which included no walks and six strikeouts — to get the job done on a three-hitter.In the second game, however, the Indians couldn’t beat Play It Again and the weather gods at the same time.Jones started on the bump for the Indians and held his own — until a fickle, pop-up shower disrupted his flow.According to one of the Indian player parents, the rain seemed to stop when the Play It Again pitcher was on the hill and rev up again when Jones climbed the summit.An Indian hero on the day was Meissner.
