JEFFERSON CITY • Missouri voters will not get another chance to watch their major party candidates for governor in a debate.In separate responses to the Post-Dispatch Friday, spokesmen for Democrat Chris Koster and Republican Eric Greitens closed the door on any additional head-to-head matchups before voters head to the polls on Nov. 8.The two had been tentatively scheduled to participate in a televised debate October 14 in St. Louis.
But, after releasing his income tax return information last week, Koster gave Greitens a deadline of 5 p.m. Thursday to release his tax information, saying he’d derail future debates if the records weren’t produced.The deadline passed with no release.Greitens campaign manager Austin Chambers said the debates were agreed upon earlier with no strings attached. He said Koster used the tax returns as a smokescreen to abandon future debates after the two met in Branson last week for a debate hosted by the Missouri Press Association.“Koster got destroyed in the first debate and got scared. In career politician fashion he tried to create a new set of rules for himself. Now he’s caught hiding from the people of Missouri,” Chambers said.Koster spokesman David Turner said the …
