Montgomery AdvertiserBeth Blevins Cooper(Photo: Contributed)Beth Blevins Cooper is on our radar this week.  She is a musician with a long line of experience in a variety of settings and genres including big band, country, jazz, blues and pop. She performs individually, as well as with bands and orchestras.  She is currently performing with the Montgomery Recreators and the Capitol Sounds Orchestra.  She does both cover songs, on which she likes to put her own twist, and original music. She shared that she was lucky enough to grow up in a house full of music, including watching the Lawrence Welk show every week.  Other members of her family played instruments, and they would have a family music night every Saturday.  She remembers using the living room drapes as pretend “show” curtains!  As a child, she was involved with music in her church and was influenced by Sandy Patty.  She was also influenced by Karen Carpenter, Linda Ronstadt and Patsy Cline.  Her more current influences include Nora Jones, Bonnie Raitt and big band music.When she was in fourth grade, she got to dance on the Lawrence Welk show and was thrilled to have gotten a kiss on the cheek from him. Later, in her 20s, she got to perform with the legendary Tony Bennet.When asked what her most memorable gig was, she mentioned performing with The Country Rhythm Boys in Oklahoma, but felt that singing back up with Leona Williams was a highlight for her.  She also auditioned for the Branson Christmas Show in Branson, Missouri, and got to perform in that production.It is important for her to get out “really good music” and …
