Mayor discusses alternate form of transportation, Uber

BRANSON MO NEWS: A popular car ride service was discussed by the Branson Board of Aldermen during Thursday’s study session.

Mayor Karen Best said Uber is on the rise in Missouri and will soon hit Branson.

“Uber is in the state of Missouri; it is headed our way. We want to be proactive instead of reactive,” Best said.

Best said it will not be long before Uber drivers take visitors from the Springfield airport to Branson; however, current city code prevents community members and visitors from using that type of transportation within city limits. Best asked staff to look into some of the guidelines already in place for other cities.

Administrator Bill Malinen said the important piece is to look at the city ordinances set in place.

“If you took an Uber from the (Springfield) airport to Branson, our ordinance does not allow you to take an Uber back to the airport, so we need to fix that,” Malinen said.

Alderman Rick Todd said he would like to know what the issues are with Uber drivers. Alderman Rick Castillon said several community members have asked him about Uber drivers.

“I get asked daily for Uber, every day,” Castillon said.
