Mizzou baseball rallies for first victory

BRANSON MO NEWS: The Missouri baseball team turned two ninth-inning wild pitches into its first victory of the season, beating Florida International 3-1 in Miami on Friday. Mizzou’s Brian Sharp reached base on an error and scored the go-ahead run on Christian Santana’s wild pitch. Chris Cornelius walked and scored the same way later in the inning for a 3-1 lead.The Tigers (1-0) got a dominant performance out of the bullpen from T.J. Sikkema (1-0), who struck out seven in five innings and allowed FIU’s only run. Mizzou starter Bryce Montes de Oca didn’t allow a run but couldn’t get through the fourth inning after walking seven with one strikeout. Nile Ball got the final out in the ninth for his first career save.MU opened the scoring in the sixth on Zach Hanna’s first Division I home run. Hannah and Sharp had four of MU’s six hits. MU’s Kameron Misner reached base four times on a career-high three walks and a triple.

“What a great team win,” Missouri coach Steve Bieser said. “We got those two runs (in the ninth) without getting a hit. We really got some clutch performances, great execution, great at-bats when it really counted. We didn’t come away with a lot of hits, but at the end of the day our pitching staff did an outstanding job.”The second game of the series is 5 p.m. Saturday.MU SOFTBALL WINS TWO
