New Mexico family suing duck boat company for deadly boating incident in Missouri

BRANSON MO NEWS: It’s been nearly two months since a duck boat sank in Branson, Missouri, killing 17 people. A family from New Mexico was on that boat, and survived. They are now suing the duck boat company. The incident happened on July 19. The duck boat capsized and sank to the bottom of the Table Rock Lake.

Fourteen other people were hurt, but survived, including a family from Carlsbad, New Mexico, and that family is suing the company that owns and operates the boats for $100 million.The Aleshire Robb and Rapp law firm based, in Springfield, Missouri, is representing the family in the lawsuit against the company, Ride the Ducks Land and Lake Tours and several of it’s vending partners. The lawsuit claims negligence against the company for continuing the duck boat tour when severe weather was approaching. The documents also say that during the briefing before the tour, passengers were told they would not need their life jackets. After the boat went into Table Rock Lake, the predicted storm hit with waves reaching up to 4 feet high.Documents say the captain lowered the plastic side curtain to block the waves, but the boat continued to take on water and sank to the bottom of the lake. The lawsuit said the design of the boat also contributed to deadly incident. Several other families have also filed lawsuits against the company; including the family that lost nine members in the deadly incident.
