OUTDOOR BRIEFS: Vice locks down win in Fall Shootout; Okies dominate Costa finale

Bobby Vice of Groves caught a 9.27-pounder to top a field of 795 amateur anglers in the first annual Sealy Outdoors Big Bass Splash Fall Shootout, held Oct.1-2 on Sam Rayburn Reservoir. He won a fully rigged Triton bass boat, Dodge truck and $5,000 cash.There is a good story behind the winning bass. According to Sealy Outdoor marketing director Nicole Sealy, Vice caught fish on a Zoom Brush Hog in about 4 feet of water.But the bite didn’t come the conventional way. Sealy says Vice’s fishing partner was fighting a smaller bass to the boat and the big one was following it. When Vice saw the big fish in pursuit of the smaller one, he pitched his bait in front of it and the fish gobbled it up. The angler’s partner netted the bass in short order.
The Fall Shootout also featured a Pro Invitational with several big league pros on the roster.
