BRANSON MO NEWS: As 2016 ended with over 1,400 building permits issued by the city of Branson, tourists and community members will start to see a few of those investments take shape.

Planning and Development Director Joel Hornickel said 1,439 building permits were issued last year. The estimated construction value amounts $51.5 million. Of those permits, 1,055 were commercial and 384 were residential.

So far this year, Hornickel said 128 building permits have been issued and the estimated construction value is $4.4 million.

“We’ve (been) consistent in the last four years with the volume of permits,” Hornickel said.

There was a large increase for building permits in 2012 due to an EF2 tornado, according to Hornickel. The tornado heavily damaged homes, businesses, hotels, restaurants and attractions along 76 Country Boulevard and in downtown during its 22-mile trek.

Hornickel said 2012 ended with 1,882 building permits, which about 443 more than in 2016. Today, there is still “strong investment” in Branson due to steady building permit growth, according to Hornickel.

“I think the fact that we still have consistency is a good sign,” Hornickel said.
