SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Joplin High School wrestling began competition at the MSHSAA Class 4 District 3 tournament on Friday at Drury University.Joplin heavyweight Jacob Booe earned two wins on the opening day of the event to advance to today’s semifinals.In his first-round match, Booe pinned Rock Bridge’s Will Bower in 50 seconds. Booe then earned a 7-3 decision over Nixa’s Ryan Davis to advance to the semifinals.
Booe will meet Nate McKaye of Jefferson City in today’s semifinals.Competing in the 220 pound bracket, Joplin’s Jadyn Withrow had a first-round bye before suffering a 3-2 loss to Waynesville’s Ethan Gatzmeyer. Withrow then earned a bye in in the consolation bracket and he’ll be back in action today. Withrow can still finish as high as third place.Several other Eagles remain alive in their respective brackets.At 106 pounds, Jerry Heidekker lost by fall to Lebanon’s Cole Patton in the first round and will be back in action today. At 113, Brenden Evans had a first-round bye and then lost by fall to Jake Nickols of Ozark in the semifinals.Derrick Brozek competed at 132 for the Eagles. After a first-round bye, Brozek lost by fall to Gaven Sax of Waynesville.Competing at 138, Brayden Williams earned an 11-7 decision over Cooper St. John of Ozark in the first round and then suffered a 13-2 loss to Jaden Duran of Lee’s Summit.Bobby Owens competed for the Eagles at 152. Owens had a first-round bye and then lost via pinfall to Lebanon’s Trevor Christian.In the 170-pound bracket, Deric Woodman lost a 13-11 decision to Wyatt Quest of Raymore-Peculiar. Woodman then defeated David Margaryan of Springfield Central 11-9 to stay alive.At 145, Terry Shuey lost by fall to Charles Adams of Raymore-Peculiar and then lost by fall to …
