BRANSON MO NEWS: Five of the seven candidates for Reeds Spring School Board attended a forum March 15 to answer questions and meet with community members.Trent Massey, Larry Leimkuehler, Joelene Powell, Jennifer Maloney and Michael Turner attended the candidate forum at the Reeds Spring Middle School. Kim Steed and incumbent Rick Porter did not attend. There are two openings on the six-member school board.Maranda Boyd, of Galena, was the moderator and asked a series of questions ranging from the number of school board meetings each candidate attended to how they would improve education without tax levies.

The forum was hosted by a group called Missouri Voters Engaged and 77 registered voters attended.About the candidatesDuring the forum, each candidate was asked to share some information about themselves.Massey, who retired from Stone County Sheriff’s Office in 2015, now works as a commissioned officer in Indian Point and teaches active shooter classes. Massey has been married to his wife, Jamie, for 18 years and they have three children.Leimkuehler is a disabled Navy veteran and a current business owner. He said his main platform is transparency as well as “old-school values.”Powell is life-long resident of the school district. She has three children. She is an assistant professor at Cox College and the Ultrasound Clinical Coordinator. She serves on a variety of advisory boards, has knowledge of Title IX and compliance.“I think we need change in our district, but, I think, we also need to make our students our priority,” Powell said. ”Our students are our future.”Maloney has been married to her husband for 22 years and they have two children. Maloney is a professor and counselor at Southwest Baptist University.
