Sight & Sound to put movie of stage production in 600 theaters nationwide in spring

BRANSON MO NEWS: Sight & Sound Theatres has a good thing going.The Strasburg-based company, which presents epic biblical dramas on stage, is setting attendance records this year.In fact, the 2016 shows — “Samson” in Strasburg, “Moses” in its theater in Branson, Missouri — are filling 85 percent of their available seats.

But attendance can’t go up forever. There are only so many seats per show and so many shows per week.That fast-approaching ceiling has Sight & Sound contemplating new ways to bring its productions to the public. And in the spring, Sight & Sound will try one out — movie theaters.For just one evening, Sight & Sound will present a movie of one of its stage productions in at least 600 communities nationwide. Sight & Sound will announce the title, date, locations and ticket price in January.Sight & Sound’s Dean Sell called the company’s movie-theater rollout “a natural extension of who we are.”Sell, the company’s brand manager, said Monday that the venture is intended to increase national awareness of Sight & Sound while making the Sight & Sound experience available to people “right in their backyard.”Sight & Sound hopes that heightened awareness drives more customers to its …
