Town of Union remembers terror attacks 16 years later

TOWN OF UNION (WBNG) — Communities around the country are remembering what happened on September 11, 2001. The Town of Union payed its respect Monday night at Remembrance Garden at Highland Park.Hundreds gathered to reflect on the nearly 3,000 victims who passed away on that tragic day.”We all come together when things happen and we become one,” Town of Union resident, Willy Vermilya said. “Even though we have our distances with politics and all that we still come together when something happens.”Many say they still remember where they were when the deadliest terror attack in American history happened.”I happen to be in St. Louis on my way to Branson, Missouri to an air force reunion,” Town of Union resident, Ted Madzy said.Madzy has been attending the annual Candlelight Observance Ceremony in the Town of Union for years, and says it’s a way for everyone to remember who we lost.”We come up here every year to this ceremony because it helps us remember and think about it,” Madzy said.The Endwell Fire Department, along with Town of Union Supervisor Rose Sotak, Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo and New York State Senator Fred Akshar were on hand for the ceremony.
