Like the fans that braved the slippery streets of Columbia on this night, the junior forward was upset.And angry. And ashamed.Missouri (18-10, 8-7 SEC) was supposed to beat Ole Miss (12-16, 5-10) on Tuesday. It was supposed to score another Southeastern Conference victory and résumé-booster. Neither happened.

Instead, the Rebels took it to the Tigers and pulled out a 90-87 victory in overtime.“Tough one,” Missouri first-year coach Cuonzo Martin said after the loss. “Credit Ole Miss for playing well and playing hard.”The Rebels played hard for Tony Madlock, who assumed the head-coaching helm after former coach Andy Kennedy stepped down Sunday.Not only did Madlock lead the Rebels out on the floor Tuesday night, but he also inspired an impressive effort.That said, Missouri often shot itself in the foot. The Tigers missed 11 free throws. They also committed 21 turnovers.“It’s embarrassing, actually,” Puryear said of the turnovers.Martin described them with the term “mind-blowing.”Missouri’s unraveling in the final minutes was not mind-blowing. Late struggles have often been a theme through 28 games in this 2017-18 season. They were again on Tuesday — even in overtime, a period in which Missouri failed to make a field goal.Even still, the Tigers had a chance on their last possession of the night. Missouri inbounded the ball to junior guard Jordan Geist, who heaved a 3-pointer. It missed the rim, the backboard, everything.“It seemed like (Robertson) was open,” Martin said, “but we’ll see (on film). … It’s a painful game to lose.”Missouri led Ole Miss 79-73 with two minutes remaining.
