Two candidates vie for Taney Co. Circuit Judge

BRANSON MO NEWS: Since Circuit Judge Tony Williams did not file  to run for his seat, two people filed to fill his seat – Taney County Prosecutor Jeff Merrell and Attorney Anna Morrissey.Both candidates spoke with Branson Tri-Lakes News about their background, why they’re running and how they see themselves serving from the bench if elected.Merrell grew up in Forsyth and finished Forsyth High School in 1989. He graduated from Truman State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English before going on to graduate from law school at University of Missouri – Kansas City. Merrell returned to Taney County in 1998 to practice law with his father. He served as a municipal judge for Forsyth and Merriam Woods and was assigned to hear cases in Branson, Hollister and Rockaway Beach until he was elected county prosecutor in 2006. He and his wife, Allison, have been married for 18 years and have two sons.

Morrissey was born in Branson and is a fourth generation Taney County resident. She grew up working in her family businesses and graduated from Branson High School. She graduated from University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication. While in law school at University of Missouri – Kansas City, she clerked for a family courts commissioner and was a representative with Thomson Reuters Westlaw. After graduating, Morrissey returned to Branson to practice law with her father. Since March, she has served as municipal judge for the city of Rockaway Beach. She and her husband, Bill, have been married for 14 years and have a daughter and a son.Why are you running?Merrell: “I really believe that we need someone experienced in that job.
