Unfinished business left for area basketball teams

BRANSON MO NEWS: Some thoughts, notes and a look ahead as I clean out the notebooks from a unique and interesting high school basketball season in the Tri-Lakes Area …This season was marked by individual dominance from players on both boys’ and girls’ teams in the area, and ended with a pair of postseason runs by young and talented teams at Blue Eye High School.Expect that to continue into the 2018-19 season.

After watching the seasons end for the Blue Eye boys – in the Class 2 sectionals in Carthage – and the Blue Eye girls – in the Class 2 quarterfinals at Drury University’s O’Reilly Family Event Center – both teams will have some unfinished business to follow up with.And both teams have young and talented players who can lead the way and finish off that business.The Blue Eye boys will miss graduated standouts in Ryan Reagan, Jacob Crouthamel and Brennen Fairchild. That trio combined to average 30.2 points and 12.3 rebounds per game.But back for the Bulldogs is Andrew Mitchell, a College of the Ozarks commit who was a first-team all-stater and shared Tri-Lakes Player of the Year honors.Mitchell is one of the most versatile and talented players in southwest Missouri. He has the unique skill-set not often seen at the Class 2 level. At 6-foot-4, he can post up most opponents and dominate on the front line.What makes him so dangerous, though, is when he takes to the perimeter. He has the ball-handling abilities of a guard, and can do even more damage outside.He averaged team-highs of 18.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, was the team’s top shot blocker and 3-point shooter.Two weeks after the sectional loss to Purdy, the sting was still burning for Mitchell.“I try not to think about it all that much, but it’s …
