127 contestants compete at chess tournament

BRANSON MO NEWS: CENTRAL OZARKS CHESS TOURNAMENT – The annual event hosted by the West Plains High School Chess Club and organized by Missouri State University-West Plains Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Southern Missouri Chess Director Jerry Trick drew about 127 contestants from 16 Missouri schools and home school students, including West Plains, Junction Hill, Glenwood, Howell Valley, Thayer, Galena, Gainesville, Willow Springs, Logan-Rogersville, Ellington, Dora, Branson, Green Forest (Salem, Mo.), Mtn. Grove, Faith Assembly and Ozark Christian Academy. Team members played five rounds in four grade divisions. Team results were: elementary, first place, Willow Springs; second place, Ozark Christian Academy, and third place, Junction Hill. Junior high: first place, Willow Springs; second place, West Plains Middle School, and third place, Logan-Rogersville. Middle school: first place, Howell Valley; second place, Junction Hill, and third place, Glenwood. High School: first place, West Plains; second place, Branson; and third place, Galena. This is the 22nd year for the event.
