BRANSON MO NEWS: The Tri-Lakes Area experienced some ups and downs in 2017, and the Branson Tri-Lakes News was there to help you keep up with it.We decided this year to take a look back and decide what would be the 10 biggest news stories of the year. In order to determine the top 10, the members of the news staff all voted on a list of 43 stories. No one was provided with a definition of a “top” story. Instead, everyone was left to determine for him or herself what qualified as a top story.After the votes were tallied, we had a conversation about the results, and made one small change in the ranking. (The change did not alter the top 10, just the order of it.)
The top 10 runs the gamut from natural disaster, crime, lawsuit, business and politics. There was a lot of intrigue in the news this year, so much so that many interesting stories could not crack the top 10. (But more about that, later) Having said that, some of the top 10 was probably a no-brainer.We invite everyone to read along with us as we find out what the biggest stories will be in 2018. Until then, here are the top 10 stories of 2017.1. FloodingIn one sense, flooding has become somewhat blasé news in the Branson area. It seems to come around quite a lot, and in 2015, the area experienced flooding twice – once during the middle of summer, and then again right after Christmas. But the area had not experienced anything quite like the breadth of 2017’s flooding, which hit the area in April, and then again in May – with deadly results.In past years, most of Branson’s serious flooding was the result of slowly rising lakes.
