Seymour FFA at Legislative Day

BRANSON MO NEWS: On Feb. 14, advisors took six Seymour FFA chapter member to the Missouri State Capitol to attend the Missouri ACTE Legislative Day in Jefferson City. We visited with our State Rep. Hannah Kelly, R-Mountain Grove, and our State Sen. Mike Cunningham, R-Rogersville.Hannah Kelly’s administrative assistant, Edward Vought, took us to the top of the capitol and to the whispering gallery.

We also had an official capitol tour and visited the Thomas Hart Benton Gallery. We set through a Missouri House committee hearing and heard three different department budgets discussed, one of which was the Missouri Department of Agriculture, where they gave mention to the Seymour FFA.The others were the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Missouri Department of Revenue. We were also introduced as special guest on the House floor. While watching the House in session, we heard debate over bills, one of which sets the legal age for marriage, which has now passed and is onto the Senate.

Mike Cunningham took us to the Senate floor and explained that Senate process and introduced us to Lt. Gov. Mike Parson, who visited with us about agriculture for a few minutes.To begin the day, we heard from two different representatives, who educated us about the legislative process and how to speak to our state elected officials.
