BRANSON NEWS: Back in August, Texas Rangers’ pitcher Cole Hamels put his 32,000-square-foot Branson, Mo., mansion on the market, according to Realtor.com. The 10-bedroom, 13-bath, six-half bath home with more than 1,700 feet of lake shoreline access was unfinished, leaving the buyer to choose the interior.
At the time, the sprawling property was listed for $9,750,000. It’s no longer on the market, but no one bought it.
Hamels, along with his wife, Heidi, decided to gift the home to Camp Barnabas, a Missouri-based non-profit organization that provides camping experiences for kids with special needs and chronic illnesses.
“Seeing the faces, hearing the laughter, reading the stories of the kids they serve; there is truly nothing like it,” Hamels said in a statement. “Barnabas makes dreams come true, and we felt called to help them in a big way.”
It is the largest gift in the non-profit’s 24-year history.
“Our mission is to change lives through disability ministry, and we’ve been strategically looking for ways to expand our ministry outside of a summer camp,” Jason Brawner, CEO of Camp Barnabas, said in a statement. “We have no doubt that this gift will allow us to do just that.”
The home sits on 100 acres next to Table Rock Lake.
According to the Springfield News-Leader, the Hamels thought this would be their dream home, but they ended up living in Texas, where Cole still pitches.
“This is so much more than a beautiful property,” Krystal Simon, chief development officer of Camp Barnabas, said in a statement. “This incredible gift allows us to further our ministry and truly change thousands of lives for years to come.”
