FORSYTH, Mo. — A man accused of killing a six year year old girl at a Branson motel in 2015 is in court today. John Roberts is scheduled for an arraignment hearing at 10:00 a.m. today in Forsyth, on his first degree murder charge. A trial date may be set during the hearing.The Missouri Supreme Court in August overruled a motion from attorneys for John Roberts that would have kept Roberts from being tried for the strangulation death of Jasmine Miller.Roberts was arrested February 21st, 2015 after police found Jasmine Miller’s body in his hotel room. She had been strangled.

Roberts told investigators he was high on methamphetamine when the incident occurred. He said he was in a dispute over drugs and money with the girl’s parents, and he took out his anger on her.Roberts was bound over to stand trial following a preliminary hearing August 16. Roberts had been declared to be unfit to stand trial by the Missouri Department of Mental Health, but Taney County Circuit Judge Eric Eighmy overruled that finding after Taney County Prosecutor Jeff Merrell objected He is being held without bond in the Taney County Jail.
