Branson Mayor signs pledge to help save monarch butterfly

BRANSON NEWS: BRANSON, Mo. (KY3) – Branson is joining efforts to bring back the monarch butterfly.



The monarch population has declined 90 percent in the last 20 years. That’s why the Branson mayor made a promise that the city will do its part to save the species.
Mayor Karen Best joined 11 other Missouri mayor’s in making a pledge.
“[The pledge is saying that] people in the community are going to support bringing the monarchs back to Branson,” Best said.
Experts say one of the main reasons for the steep decline is there are no longer many places for the species to lay eggs.
