There were plenty of reasons Ozark High School senior Sidney Branson chose Columbia College. It wasn’t just because of the success of the Cougars’ volleyball program.“I just had a really good feeling on my visit,” Branson said after signing her letter of intent Nov. 8. “Then, when they took me down to see the nursing program, it looked like one of the best ones I’d seen on my visits. That contributed to why I chose Columbia College, but also everyone was so nice there. Even the athletic trainer was really excited and wanted me to come there. And they’re a nationally-ranked program, so that helped, too.”Columbia is 31-5 this season and playing in the NAIA National Championships for the 24th time in program history. The Cougars won a national championship in 2015.
Branson, a hitter and two-year varsity starter, should fit right in, Ozark coach Adeana Brewer said.“She’s one of the hardest workers on the team. She works hard in the weight room, her energy and her celebration level cannot be matched by anyone,” Brewer said. “If I ever ask someone to communicate and to work hard, Sidney’s going to be the first person to raise that energy level and work extremely hard. That leadership by example is something that she can take with her to the collegiate world and her coach is going to be very happy with what she brings to the floor. When you have someone who brings that level of energy and celebration, who does so unselfishly, I think that person is the one who has to be on the floor.“I can’t wait to watch her contribute at the next level.
