Branson to host tourism conference

BRANSON MO NEWS: Tourism professionals from across the state are set to gather in Branson, as the city gets set to host the 2017 Missouri Governor’s Conference on Tourism.

Jeff Seifried, president and CEO of the Branson Chamber of Commerce and CVB, said the conferences come at an important time for tourism in the state.

“We’re very excited to be able to host the Missouri Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Branson,” Seifried said. “The state tourism budget was cut roughly by 50 percent, and I think it’s a vital time for us to showcase not only the Branson market, which solely runs on tourism, but also emphasize the importance of tourism across the state and why that funding is so important.”

According to Seifried, tourism professionals, economic developers and state officials will be in attendance at the conference with a variety of topics on the agenda.

“Obviously catering to smaller markets to larger markets like Branson,” Seifried said. “Topics like print and TV campaigns and the politics of tourism and how to successfully navigate them.”

Looking past the conference, Seifried said the event gives markets of different sizes a chance to get a sense of a cohesive state-wide strategy.

“A cohesive strategy of not only what Branson is doing, but Kansas City, St. Louis, Springfield and the larger markets are doing,” he said. “Not only in attracting tourists, but also convention business.”

On the political side of tourism, Seifried said the travel advisory issued by the NAACP for the state of Missouri is an issue that should come up. The first travel advisory issued by the organization, the NAACP cited the passage of Missouri Senate Bill 43, which makes it more difficult for employees to prove their protected class, like race or gender, directly led to unlawful discrimination.
