City discusses pausing 76 project due to lack of funds

BRANSON MO NEWS: After Branson officials saw the price tag for the 76 Complete Street project Thursday, an option of halting the project altogether was discussed.

A presentation of the potential design and budget for the 76 project was presented during a study session Thursday where several community members attended.

Program Manager Jim Martin presented six layers to the project that include underground utilities, essential improvements, enhanced features, distinctive upgrades, technology, and gateways and icons.

Ann McDowell, executive director for Project Branson, and Korey Schulz with Olsson Associates, presented creative ideas to be integrated such as colorful crosswalks, animated traffic lights, seat walls, pedestrian lightning, LED signage, advanced traffic management system, parking technology, interactive kiosks, corridor-wide Wi-Fi network, gateways and icons, and more.

Project Branson is a private economic group hired by the city to develop design plans for the 76 project, according to McDowell.

The cost for the project, along with additional fees, incentives, and contingency, amounts to $96,000,000, Martin said.

Finding the money

The question that has been at the forefront is, how will the city pay for the project?
