A German research team has found that the number of flying insects in Germany has reached on all time low.
USA TODAYAbout 2,000 butterflies live at the Butterfly Palace and Rainforest Adventure at any given time.(Photo: Branson CVB Photo)Given the frigid Ozarks weather at the moment, the timing for a trip to the Butterfly Palace and Rainforest Adventure couldn’t be much better.“Our rainforest is a cozy 75 to 80 degrees,” says Brittney Smith, general manager.Since opening in 2006, the Butterfly Palace has grown significantly, adding many more experiences to keep guests happy.Beyond the science and the preservation efforts, the Butterfly Palace is a beautiful, tranquil indoor garden to visit. (Photo: Branson CVB Photo)“We started out with maybe 10 critters downstairs in the critter center and 500 to 700 butterflies,” Smith says. “Now we’ve got about 30 different species in our science center and we have about 2,000 butterflies at any time.”Guests can enjoy live butterfly releases twice a day in the Butterfly Aviary, where all kinds of species fly free. Those who pick up a nectar flower can feed them right from their hands.But butterflies are only the beginning of what the destination is about. Offering kids and adults a better understanding of the rainforest and why protecting it is important is an integral part of the attraction’s mission.“A lot of people talk about it and learn about it,” she says. “It’s hard to get people excited about it because it’s not something we see every day.”The attraction’s theater was renovated this year and two new educational movies were launched to help visitors understand how important the rainforest is to the survival not only of species that live there, but the humans who work there.All kinds of species fly free in …
