BRANSON MO NEWS: ETHEL M. BURTON
JERSEYVILLLE – Ethel M. Burton, 90, passed away at 1:36 p.m., Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Jerseyville Manor in Jerseyville.
She was born on August 7, 1927 in Moniteau County, Missouri and was the daughter of the late Louie E. & Geraldine (Higgins) Hotz.
Ethel was raised in Missouri, until the age of 8, when her family moved to Madison, IL.
She married Harry J. Burton on February 14, 1945 in Granite City and shortly after, the two moved to Grafton in 1948 where they raised their family and shared in 51 years of marriage before his death on May 19, 1996.
Ethel was employed with several restaurants in the Grafton area, including Peg & Stan’s, Keller’s, Hillside Inn and Red Lantern and later in the Housekeeping Department at Principia College, where she retired in 1992 after 16 years of service.
She was a devoted Mother and Grandmothers and “never” missed a ballgame, scout meeting, dance recital or musical theater performance that her children or grandchildren were involved in. She enjoyed traveling, most especially to Branson, MO for the Country Western shows, Arcola, to attend the Arcola Corn Festival as well as camping, fishing and relaxing at Mark Twain and Shelbyville Lakes, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry & Linda (Wallace) Burton of Grafton, Ray & Barb (Williams) Burton of Jerseyville and Greg & Linda (Davis) Burton of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Kelly & Rodney Verdun, Todd & Laura Burton, Kortney & Trevyor Fisher, Whitney & James Copley, Amber & Brad Blackorby, Billy Ray & Samantha Burton, Carrie & Ryan Decker, Kristen & Phillip Hunter, Lindsy & John Phillips and Dana & Brent Fitzgibbons; 24 great-grandchildren, Karlee & Drew Verdun; Shelby, Sawyer, “TJ”, & Hunter Burton; Kinley & Blakely Fisher; Parker, Jett, Cruise & Belle Blackorby; Raymond & Angelina Burton; Antonio, Alliya & Jaxon Eckler; Trenton & Jaron Decker; Haley & Allie Hunter; Anna & Aiden Phillips; and Grant Fitzgibbons; …
