BRANSON MO NEWS: A new event in Branson hopes to raise awareness, as well as funds, for local pet rescues and pet adoption. Raise the Woof is being held by the Paws and Hands United Animal Rescue on Sept. 8. The event includes a raffle, silent auction, dog show and several vendors who will have booths set up.Director of Paws and Hands United Ashley Hurst said some of the vendors, which will include people selling things like Mary Kay and Scentsy, will be giving a portion of their profits from the event to Paws and Hands. The raffle and silent auction prizes include gift certificates to local attractions, like Dolly Parton’s Stampede and the Titanic museum, as well as gift baskets donated by local businesses.
While raising money is part of the goal, Hurst said the main purpose of the event is spreading awareness about local animal shelters and adoption.“It’s raising awareness of animal adoption, which I think is the most important part of it,” Hurst said. “But it’s also getting some of the shelters out there. I think a lot of people don’t realize that some of these shelters are around, and to kind of get them a little bit of exposure too, so that people can get more involved with the different groups that are going to be there.”Hurst said the event is going to be a collaboration between their animal rescue and several other local animal groups. Shepherd of the Hills Humane Society, Tri-Lakes Humane Society, Taney County Animal Control and Mo-Kan Border Collie Rescue will also bring adoptable animals to the event, as well as set up booths to give out information to those in attendance.The shelters will bring adoptable dogs and cats to the event.
