That’s the way it’s done in Munich, said Kyle Jeffries, a Mother’s Brewing Company staffer who helps organize that brewery’s Oktoberfest.The German city where Oktoberfest began used to have it in mid-October, but the weather wasn’t very reliable. In Springfield, beer lovers basically follow that tradition, Jeffries said.For example, Mother’s event, Oktoberfest in the Ozarks, happens a week before Bavaria’s.“Missouri has a pretty significant German heritage,” Jeffries said. “Even in the Ozarks. Certainly Missouri’s beer heritage owes a lot to German heritage, so it makes sense to celebrate it.”These days, American craft brews are a major feature of local Oktoberfests as much or more than imported beers, said Jason Bernard, Brown Derby International Wine Center manager.
