BRANSON, Mo. — At Friday’s candidate forum put on by the Missouri Press Association, it didn’t take long for the first attack to land.“Under his leadership, Missouri has become a state known for serial corruption, national embarrassment and epic failure,” Republican Eric Greitens said about Democrat Chris Koster in his opening statement.Though all five candidates shared the stage, Greitens took every opportunity to mention Koster’s “career politician” status. Before being the attorney general, Koster was a state senator and county prosecutor, while this election is the first time Greitens, a nonprofit CEO and former Navy SEAL, has run for office.
Koster, who began his opening statement by saying he hoped candidates would “set aside political rhetoric today,” was able to get the last word in his closing statements.“I have a lot of doubt about whether he knows anything about putting (government) back together,” Koster said. “Which is why I think he needs training wheels and a COO and a team of people to come in and show him how to do the job a governor is supposed to know how to do.”Koster was referring to when in the debate the candidates were asked …
