BRANSON, Mo. — Texas Rangers pitcher Cole Hamels and his wife Heidi are playing Santa Claus in a big way this year. The couple is donating a huge home on Table Rock Lake to Camp Barnabas, a charity that works with disadvantaged and special needs kids.The 32,000 square foot house along with 100 acres of property along State Highway DD, is the largest donation made to the charity.In a news release, Krystal Simon, Chief Development Officer for Camp Barnabas, said. “This incredible gift allows us to further our ministry and truly change thousands of lives for years to come.” Over the past 24 years, Camp Barnabas has welcomed more than 75,000 campers and missionaries to camp. The non-profit has two locations, one near Shell Knob and the other near Purdy, Missouri, dedicated to providing life-changing experiences to individuals with special needs and chronic illnesses as well as their siblings. In making the donation, the Cole Hamels said “There are tons of amazing charities in Southwest Missouri. Out of all of these, Barnabas really pulled on our heartstrings,” says Cole Hamels. “Seeing the faces, hearing the laughter, reading the stories of the kids they serve; there is truly nothing like it. Barnabas makes dreams come true, and we felt called to help them in a big way.”A press conference next week will formally acknowledge the gift. (edited news release)
