How West Frankfort female wrestler, football player battles through life’s hardships

BRANSON MO NEWS: WEST FRANKFORT — Faith Clay has fought for most of her life, but she probably won’t tell anyone that.The unassuming 13-year-old from West Frankfort has battled cancer and gender stereotypes since she was four. Her mom, Hope Lynn, remembers when the fighting started.They were on family vacation in Branson, Missouri, in March 2008 when Faith got sick. She started showing flu-like symptoms. Lynn remembers having to buy a stroller for her four-year-old who would not walk because her legs ached so much. She said they lived off of Tylenol and Motrin, alternating between the two. They went to the doctor when they got back to their home in Huntington, Arkansas. Clay was diagnosed with the flu.
The family battled the sickness for a month before a final trip to the doctor where Lynn demanded blood work.“They called us that very day, that evening, and said we needed to get to Children’s Hospital as soon as possible,” Lynn remembered. They left immediately, making the two-hour trip to Little Rock, Arkansas. After getting to the hospital, Lynn was told what no parent wants to hear: Her child had cancer.“I was devastated,” Lynn said. She and her family …
