PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — Loretta Hummel, Frostburg, won three awards during the 2017 CGMA (Country Gospel Music Association) Eastern Division Convention held Aug. 21 through Aug. 26 at Spirit of the Smokies Condo Lodge in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.She received three silver heart awards: Female Vocalist of the Year for “God Gave Us a River,” which is on her latest album, Fresh Water; lyricist for “I Know Jesus Is My Savior”; and yodeler for “God Hears Me When I Yodel.” The words and music of these songs were written and composed by Hummel.
Ballots were cast throughout the week-long event by the members in attendance.As an award recipient, Hummel is automatically entered in the international awards process, with awards being given at the international CGMA Convention in Branson, Missouri, in October.
“The Country Gospel Music Association was established to assist musical artists in gaining recognition from the general public and their ministry-oriented peers,” said Billy Hale, president. “For this cause, we formed the Silver and Golden Heart Awards so that they could endorse and recommend one another. There are over 7,500 members.”The week-long convention consisted of morning worship and prayer and afternoon workshops. There were performances every night by the members of CGMA Monday through Friday. On Saturday night, the last of the convention, the Silver Heart Awards were presented. CGMA holds conventions worldwide.Hummel plays in a number of local and regional events, including the Joy of Christmas celebration each December in Oakland.
