BRANSON MO NEWS: By Grant Sloan | gsloan@kolr10.com Published 01/05 2017 06:22PM Updated 01/05 2017 08:52PM BRANSON, Mo. – The company known for the “Blue Light Special” is trying to get out of the red.Kmart’s parent company, Sears Holdings, announced this week it would be closing some 150 stores across the country.Five of those stores are located in Missouri: Springfield, Jefferson City, St. Louis, Rolla, and Branson.”We were kind of sad [to hear the news],” says Branson resident, Sheri Gahagan, who often visits the Branson Kmart on Highway 248.“We really like this store, they have different options for the area,” she says. “But we can understand the reasons for [closing] it. It’s not a real busy store.”While having the store to yourself may be great for shopping, it has the opposite effect on a company’s bottom line.”The entire industry has taken a hit and I think it’s no surprise that Amazon plays a big role in that,” says College of the Ozarks business professor, Emily Emery.“Brick and mortar is kind of a thing of the past,” she says.Emery says Kmart has been playing catch-up in the online game for years, lagging behind companies like Wal-Mart and Target.But …
