Lady Liberators win pair at Branson

Bolivar girls basketball finished second at the Battle at the Border tournament last weekend in Branson. The Lady Liberators notched wins over Lake Hamilton of Searcy, Ark., and Union while falling to host Branson.The Lady Liberators won their opener Thursday night over Lake Hamilton 46-39 behind a strong opening half.”I was very pleased with our defensive intensity and rebounding to start the game,” said Bolivar coach Darin Archer. “We held a talented Lake Hamilton team to six points in the first half. We did not shoot the ball particularly well from the field, but our defense and rebounding was the difference maker, especially in the first half. We had a quality effort from all of our girls, but we still have a long way to go in the execution aspect of our game. This was definitely a game we can learn from, and Lake Hamilton exposed some areas we need to clean up, especially on the offensive end.”

Bolivar doubled up the Lady Wolves 10-5 after a period and after a low scoring second quarter, led Lake Hamilton 16-6. The scoring picked up in the second half, with BHS up 28-20 headed to the final stanza where Bolivar finished off the neutral site win.Michelle Gabani led BHS with 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists, three steals and four blocks. Taylor Dial and Reaghan Lesh both recorded seven points, and Rheaghan Hancock posted six points and five boards.”(She) did a great job attacking the basket and her teammates found her when she had scoring opportunities,” Archer said.

Friday night, Bolivar hung tough but fell short against the host Lady Pirates in a 52-37 loss. Branson led 12-5 after a period and took a 22-14 lead to intermission on the Lady Liberators.”I was extremely proud of our effort …
