BRANSON MO NEWS: With the spontaneous reroute of our vacation we needed new maps, so we drove through the Mark Twain National Forest toward Branson, Missouri. Route 160 would be a spectacular ride on a motorcycle, but our van doesn’t corner well, so we took our time. We crossed an arm of Bull Shoals Lake of fishing fame. The Branson AAA is an insurance office with no maps, so we were off to Fayetteville, Arkansas to a full-service AAA, where we loaded up on maps and travel advice.It was too cold and windy to try the tremendous trout fishery at the tailwaters of Table Rock Dam at Branson, so we charted a route that let us dally and enjoy our day. Allowing time in your schedule and keeping a little money aside enables you to take advantage of the serendipitous moments and places you pass through.Our next destination was Clarksville, Arkansas, since the lodge at Magazine Mountain State Park, with its sweeping views of the Ozark Mountains, was completely booked. Having not yet overdosed on winding, twisting, narrow, steep roads, we meandered through the hills on the Pigtail Trail, continued across Boston Mountains National Forest and then along the Mulberry River …
